Charles Micucci is the author-illustrator of the popular LIFE AND TIMES series and a lifelong fan of corn. He remembers visiting the corn palace in South Dakota as a child and when he was in 9th grade, he won an egg-drop competition using popcorn. "The task was to create a device whereas a raw egg would not break when dropped off the school roof. [Other] kids made all these elaborate contraptions. None of them worked. I packed a simple cardboard box with popcorn. My egg suvived the fall." To help with the research of this book, he grew Tom thumb popcorn in a pot, painted mountain corn in a barrel, and row of hybrid sweet corn near a hedgerow. His favorite way to eat corn is...popped.
