SUMMARY

This book tells the story of Catalina de Erauso, who after leaving the convent of San Sebastin, posed as a man and left for the Americas, where she achieved the rank of lieutenant. Catalina killed many men in duels and confrontations, among them one brother, and amorous infatuations with various women. She was detained in Peru and sentenced to death after one of her customary brawls. When it was learned she was a virgin, the bishop for the region pardoned her. On her return to Spain, she was received by the king, who honored her military rank and authorized her to use a man's name. The Pope also gave her permission to pose as a man. After these adventures, she returned to the New World, this time to Mexico, started a business and lived as a man until her death.
