Donald Gruby grew up in the small rural town of Eden, South Dakota. His first collection of poems, A Little of Eden, recalls the days of his youth, many of which were spent at the town's filling station in the company of old timers who taught Don the meaning of a well-lived life. After spending four years with the US Army's 82nd Airborne, Don returned to Minneapolis to attend Dunwoody Technical Institute, where he studied tool and die making.
