John Garrett's early photography training was as a general photographer, shooting anything from dustbins to fashion models to make a living in Australia. He then worked as a fashion and advertising photographer during the "Swinging 60s" in London. John was subsequently able to shoot reportage, his first love, and in 1971 he covered the war between India and Pakistan. He then shot for most of the leading magazines including Paris Match, Time, Life, The Observer, and Stern. Since then, he has worked as a photographer, lecturer, writer, and TV-commercial director. This is his eighth book. Martin W. Sandler is the author of more than 40 books on photography and American history. He has twice been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and was the recipient of the Horn Book Award, one of the highest honors in children's literature. Sandler's books include This Was America, American Image, and the forthcoming Oxford Book of World Photography.
