The popular commercial version of A Course in Miracles (the "Course") was first published in book form in 1975 by the Foundation for Inner Peace ("FIP"). More than 1.3 million copies of A Course in Miracles have been printed and sold since then. In 1972 the authors presented a copy of the just-completed manuscript to Hugh Lynn Cayce, son of the renowned clairvoyant, Edgar Cayce. That version, the first complete one, thenceforth was referred to by the editors as the "Hugh Lynn Cayce" or "HLC" version. After Hugh Lynn Cayce received the completed manuscript, A Course in Miracles was subjected to further editing, and as a result, some 25 percent of the Hugh Lynn version was deleted from the first five chapters of the work and additional changes were made throughout, resulting in the commercial version of the work. In early 2000 Jesus' Course in Miracles was reproduced from a digital copy of the Hugh Lynn Cayce manuscript, which CIMS considers to be the most authoritative version of the Course obtainable today. The only changes that have been made have been the addition of formatting for print media. In addition to the authoritative HLC manuscript, Jesus' Course in Miracles also contains an Appendix which compares the HLC manuscript with the popular Second Edition of A Course in Miracles. Many student of the Course consider study of Jesus' Course in Miracles to be indispensable in their curriculum. In April 2004 a federal judge in New York ruled that the earliest versions of the book A Course in Miracles (including the Hugh Lynn Cayce version) had been placed into the public domain in 1973-75, prior to the printing of the commercial version, and the copyright presumed to protect the earliest versions of the work (No. A693944) was rendered void. Litigation between CIMS and FACIM which involved the copyright was concluded with an agreed settlement that permitted CIMS to resume publication of Jesus' Course in Miracles.Schucman, Helen is the author of 'Jesus' Course in Miracles', published 2000 under ISBN 9780976420002 and ISBN 0976420007.
