Ramu Ramanathan has an M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Madras, India, an M.Stat. in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota. His areas of interest are applied econometrics, energy economics, economic growth, and international trade. His articles in these areas have appeared in leading journals in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and India. He is the author of Statistical Methods in Econometrics and Introduction to the Theory of Economic Growth, and co-author of the books San Diego: An Economic Analysis, Measuring External Effects in Solid Waste Management, and Regional Load Curve Models. He is a professor emeritus at the University of California, San Diego, where he has been a faculty member since 1967. He has been an associate editor of Energy: The International Journal, a member of the University of California Energy Research Group Advisory Committee, and the President of the Quantitative Economic Research Institute (Queri), a consulting firm.
