Instrumentation Fundamentals for Process Control

This work is a practical guide to the principles of Process Measurement and Control aimed at those contemplating, or entering a career in the area and gives an insight to the 'real' world of work and the expectations of the employer. It is envisaged as 'recommended reading' and not the main text for a course, or to supersede the mathematical treatment of control theory that will continue to be essential for a rounded understanding. When employed in industry, but not in it's Research and Development departments, we do not get the opportunity every day to use all that we have learned at college or university; a view unfortunately shared by many engineering professionals. Engineers working in this field are expected to have the ability to recognise problems concealed in masses of data, but with the 'tools' of: experience and understanding of the principles involved, provide minimal cost solutions using available technology. This work seeks not only to provide those tools but also act as a refresher for those already in the industry or as an introdution to newcomers especially readers who are pursuing a study course in another discipline.
