Jerry Apps, born and raised on a Wisconsin farm, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and author of numerous articles and columns that have appeared in state and national publications. He is a former publications editor for UW-Extension, an acquisitions editor for the McGraw-Hill Book Company, and editor of a national professional journal. Jerry has written more than 35 books, many of them on rural history and country life. Recent books include: Country Wisdom, When Chores Were Done, Country Ways and Country Days, One-Room Country Schools, Barns of Wisconsin, Cheese: The Making of Wisconsin Tradition, Eat Rutabagas and Stormy. (The latter two books are for children.) For his writing, Jerry has won awards from the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, The Wisconsin Library Association, The Wisconsin Council for Writers, The Robert E.
