Dr. Steve Farner's journey into management began almost two decades ago when he decided to quit attending his principles of management course in college because it was in his view, "common sense." He changed his major to finance and graduated from Iowa State University in 1988. His unique perspective on management stems primarily from his eight years of management experience in his family's wholesale distribution company, where found himself constantly asking such questions as "why aren't they listening to me?" or "why aren't they doing the job my way?" He received his MBA from Creighton University in 1992. It was here when he "actually went to class," that he realized the enormous potential of people who are both motivated and have the ability to produce at their best, and determined that he wanted a career espousing these principles. In 1997, he received his Ph.D. in Management from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. His main interest is organizational behavior, which emphasizes the psychological side of what makes people do what they do. Steve currently teaches management courses at Bellevue University and the University of Nebraska. Organizations he currently works with include The Gallup Organization, PayPal, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Omaha Public Power District.Farner, Steve is the author of 'Hey! I'm the Manager... Why Aren't You Listening to Me?: A Field Guide for Managing People', published 2008 under ISBN 9780979832000 and ISBN 0979832004.
