Hermes and Aphrodite Encounters

This collective volume represents the proceedings from a colloquium held at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, in April 2002, which dealt with the presence of Hermes and Aphrodite in contemporary literature and culture. The two mythical paradigms, inherited from the Greeks and profoundly transformed in our times, are perceived, at the turn of the millennium, as leading models not only in Western societies but also in cultures not directly influenced by the Mediterranean world. In their interaction, the two myths represent the conjunction between "communication and love."
