Wilson Heflin (1913-1985) was a founder of The Melville Society. In 1946 Heflin joined the faculty at the United States Naval Academy, where he taught American literature, with a specialty in Literature of the Sea, until his death in 1985 Mary K. Bercaw Edwards teaches Literature of the Sea for the Williams College-Mystic Seaport Maritime Studies Program.
