Born in Brazil, Dr. David P. Appleby had a long career studying and performing the music of Heitor Villa-Lobos. Appleby was one of five Americans honored with the Villa-Lobos Centennial Medal by the Brazilian government in 1988 for his research and performances of the music of Brazil's most notable composer.
