Heidi

Johanna Spyri (1827-1901) was born in the Swiss village of Hirzel, within view of the Alps. It was only at the age of forty-three that Spyri first began writing about the people and places she knew as a child. She is the author of almost fifty novels, but it is for Heidi, first published in 1880, that she is best loved and remembered Angelo Rinaldi won immediate success with his first picture book, which was nominated for the prestigious Mother Goose Award in Britain. His illustrations have continued to win him wide acclaim Beverly Cleary has gained a devoted readership of children and adults around the world since the publication of her first book in 1950.
