Handbook on Synchrotron Radiation

The aim of volume 3 of the Handbook on Synchrotron Radiation, is to demonstrate the power and sophistication of experimental methods used to conduct synchrotron radiation research at wavelengths comparable to the interatomic spacing in condensed matter. As a result of the substantial body of research performed at high-energy electron storage rings, a great deal about optimising the design of storage rings for synchrotron radiation production has been learned. The methods for generating high-intensity X-ray beams using insertion devices and for manipulating and monochromatizing them, have matured. The experimental research techniques, foreshadowed by the early research performed parasitically on high-energy physics machines, have evolved dramatically and entirely new opportunities have been exploited. The emphasis in this volume is placed on scattering techniques, particularly those influenced heavily by synchrotron radiation.
