SUMMARY

Donald Mitchell was born in 1925. Two composers have been central to his writings on music, Gustav Mahler and Benjamin Britten. He is Trustee Emeritus of the Britten -- Pears Foundation and Life President of the Britten Estate. He is currently a visiting Professor at the Universities of Sussex and York. He was awarded the Gustav Mahler Medal of Honour of the international Gustav Mahler Society in Vienna in 1987, and in New York in 2002, together with Henry-Louis de La Grange, he was awarded by Bard College the Charles Flint Kellog Award for his services to Mahler's music.
