The best thing our 1979 national championship team was that we all got along. We liked each other and had a lot of fun. We used to crack on each other unmercifully and still do. As great as some of our players were, or how obscure others may have been, talk to any one of them and he will say being a part of Michigan State's national championship made a significant difference in his life and he enjoys the benefits of it to this day. Even if everything that's said about Coach Heathcote being irascible, curmudgeonly, and demanding is unequivocally true, we knew he always had our best interest at heart and was a benevolent dictator...at least some of the time.
