Reese Hawkins is a native of Greer, South Carolina. He received an Associate of Arts from North Greenville College at Tigerville and continued his education at Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina where he received a B.S. degree in Chemistry. After service in World War II, he earned a B.S. degree in Pharmacy at North Dakota State University in Fargo. For many years Hawkins was pharmacist-owner of drug stores in Gulford College, North Carolina and Jamestown, North Dakota. After selling his Jamestown store in 1977 he spent twenty years as a neighbor of his uncle, Cody (Doc) Hawkins, in the Pleasant Hill section of Greenville County and in Greer, South Carolina. He and his wife, Margaret, a North Dakotan from Bottineau, moved back to Jamestown in 1998 where he has an office in Meidinger Square. It was here with the help of his daughter, Meredith Wallin, he finished his first book, "Remembering Louis L’Amour."
