SUMMARY

J. J. Webster, a world-famous mystery writer, bequeathed a hidden treasure to his four grand children. At the reading of his will, each received several clues to the mystery that had to be solved by summer's end. In the past, the youngsters had competed, now they had to cooperate. Twelve-year-old J. J. Webster II tells the story. Through his eyes and feelings we meet cousins Joanne, 7; Glenn, 14; and Ellie, 16. During summer vacation, the youngsters work together and find the treasure which turns out to be different yet the same for each one of them. For the coin collecting boys it is a collection of superb old and new coins from around the world, each precisely identified and tagged with a note attached about Grandfather's book, which was being written at that time. Joanne receives a collection of dolls. Ellie receives a collection of music boxes, the largest of which is a jewelry box containing some pieces of her grandmother's jewelry. Each youngster also receives a contracted, ready-to-be-published mystery novel, rights to its future royalties, and a bank book showing a $25,000 deposit. This money is not to be touched until their twenty-first birthdays. The magnitude of Grandfather's bequest is stunning. J. J. points out, though, that the greatest gift of all is the knowledge for each of the children that Grandfather was thinking of them always, throughout his career, even when he traveled around the world on business. This is a very readable, high-interest story.Rogers, Sherbrooke is the author of 'Grandfather Webster's Strange Will' with ISBN 9780880920667 and ISBN 0880920661.
