Richard Kincaide was born in Detroit and raised at Olympia Stadium. Kincaide began covering the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, Lions and Pistons for Lansing radio station WITL in the late 1970s while still attending Michigan State University. He later spent ten years on the air at 50,000-watt WJR radio, where he hosted Michigan's top-rated sports talk show Sports Wrap and was the on-air host for hockey broadcasts on the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Network. Kincaide has been the play-by-play voice for two minor league hockey teams, calling over 500 games for the Flint Spirits and the Grand Rapids Griffins, both of the now-defunct International Hockey League. Kincaide was named the Associated Press "Reporter of the Year" in 1988 and served as President of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association.
