Karin Proudfoot was educated at St Paul's Girls' School and Newnham College, Cambridge (where she read history) and has been fascinated by genealogy for as long as she can remember. She worked at the Society of Genealogists during university vacations, and after graduating found her ideal job, as Research Assistant to Somerset Herald at the College of Arms, which involved researching the family trees of clients from all walks of life and every part of the world. This had to be done to the exacting standards of the College of Arms, with documentary proof for every statement in a family tree -- excellent discipline in an area where relationships are often assumed on the flimsiest of evidence. After the retirement of Somerset Herald she continued as Assistant to Lancaster Herald (now Garter King of Arms), until leaving to bring up her two children. However, the passion for genealogy remained, and she turned her attention to previously unresearched branches of her own and her husband's families, making full use of all the resources now available to the family historian, on the internet and in record officesProudfoot, Karin is the author of 'Genealogy for Beginners' with ISBN 9781860772689 and ISBN 1860772684.
