Fritz Wittels (1880-1950) was a pioneering Viennese psychoanalyst, the first biographer of Sigmund Freud, & intermittently friend & rival of Freud himself. Towards the end of his life, Wittels wrote a 200-page memoir of his early life & career in Vienna. The typescript memoirs, are published here for the first time, accompanied by a range of little-known illustrations. Incomplete in places, the memoirs have been deftly edited, contextualized & introduced by Edward Timms, whose many valuable explanatory notes include the identification of the Ôchild woman' of the title. This book is of exceptional importance for the origins of psychoanalysis. Illustrations.Timms, Edward is the author of 'Freud and the Child Woman : The Memoirs of Fritz Wittles', published 2001 under ISBN 9780788198274 and ISBN 0788198270.
