Through his newspaper writings, radio programs, and television appearances, MacCubbin has helped thousands of gardeners in Central Florida. Some readers may be familiar with his Plant Doctor column and feature articles for the Orlando Sentinel while others may recognize him as the co-host of the WCPX television Pamela's Garden, or as the host of the Better Lawns and Gardens radio program. MacCubbin graduated from the University of Maryland with degrees in horticulture. Currently an Extension urban horticulturalist in Orange County, MacCubbin is also an author of several books. In addition to this book for Cool Springs Press, he co-authored the first edition of the Florida Gardener's Guide with Georgia Tasker. He is the author of Month-by-Month Gardening in Florida and My Florida Garden: A Gardener's Journal, all for Cool Springs Press, and Florida Home Grown: Landscaping, and Florida Home Grown: Edible Landscapes. He has been honored for his media contributions with numerous awards, including the Best Horticultural Writer Award by the Florida Nurseryman and Growers Association, as well as being granted the Garden Communicators Award by the American Nurseryman's Association. Tom and his wife, Joan, live and garden near Apopka. Georgia Tasker has been the garden writer for The Miami Herald for more than 20 years. She is a Master Gardener and has earned a certificate in commercial tropical botany from Florida International University. Recognized frequently for her outstanding work, Tasker was a Pulitzer Price finalist for her writing on tropical deforestation. The Florida Nurserymen and Growers Association named her Outstanding Horticultural Writer. Following the destruction of Hurricane Andrew, Tasker was given the Media Award of Greatest Merit by the Florida Urban Forestry Council for her work to help save trees in areas devastated by the storm. She has been a Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University. In addition to this book for Cool Springs Press, Tasker is the author of Wild Things, The Return of Native Plants, and Enchanted Ground, Gardening with Nature in the Subtropics. The Tropical Audubon Society recently presented her with its first Lifetime Achievement Award. She is a member of the Explorers Club and the Society of Women Geographers. Tasker is an avid orchid grower and photographer, and lives in Coconut Grove.Georgia B.
