Bill Thompson, III is the Editor of Bird Watcher's Digest, the popular bimonthly magazine devoted to birds and bird watching. From an early age, Bill knew his life would be intertwined with birds and bird watching. One of his first words was "junco" and one of his early memories is of seeing a male cardinal in a tree. In 1978, his parents, Bill and Elsa Thompson, founded Bird Watcher's Digest in their living room, fulfilling their dream. It has been published continuously since its inception. In addition to this book for Cool Springs Press, Bill Thompson is the author of the best-selling book, Bird Watching for Dummies. He is also the author of many booklets published by Bird Watcher's Digest. His articles on bird watching have appeared in numerous books and magazines, including National Gardening. Bill is a frequent guest lecturer and speaker for many events. In addition, he is a longtime member of The American Birding Association and is a Director of the Ohio Ornithological Society. Bill, his wife Julie Zickefoose (an acclaimed artist and nature writer), and their two children enjoy life on an 80-acre farm in Whipple, Ohio. One of their life dreams became a reality when they added a 50-foot-tall bird-watching observation tower to their home. To date, they have recorded sightings of more than 180 bird species.
