In his sixth book of poetry, JOHN SMITH offers a dialogue about being. In the intellectual context of modern times, he explores what it means to be human: as an individual, as one in relationship to others, and as a part of the earth and of the universe. As physics, algebra, and geometry collide with his philosophical questionings, Smith uses language to bridge the ephemeral and the infinite. On December 5, 2002, the Prince Edward Island government appointed JOHN SMITH to a two-year term as the Island's first Poet Laureate. Since then, he has travelled the Island, hosting readings and lectures about poetry throughout the ages, celebrating the form of poetic expression, and raising public awareness of poetry and the spoken word. For thirty years, Smith was a much-respected and much-loved professor of English at the University of Prince Edward Island. His gift for bringing literature alive touched thousands of students, among whom are some of the Island's finest writers. Now Professor Emeritus, JOHN SMITH lives in Charlottetown. His most recent books include Strands the Length of the Wind and Midnight Found You Dancing.Smith, John E. is the author of 'Fireflies in the Magnolia Grove', published 2004 under ISBN 9781894838108 and ISBN 1894838106.
