This volume from the recognition that there is a burgeoning of "economic talk" outside the official discipline of economics. Almost every discipline, especially in the humanities, includes a growing number of scholars who engage in economic analysis by analyzing economic events, deploying economic metaphors in social and cultural analysis, or using economic theories and concepts to analyze texts, artworks, and other cultural artifacts. The editors bring together scholars from numerous disciplines and regions, along with nonacademics involved in organizations concerned with economic issues, to discuss and debate the content and significance of the proliferation of economic approaches currently taking place inside and outside the academy. The goal is not to "teach" the correct approach to economic analysis (from any side of the current divide) but, first, to encourage the mutual recognition of existing approaches and, second, to explore the various ways economic representations function in diverse venues within and beyond the discipline of economics. The essays in this book address the question of economic representation from a variety of perspectives, ranging from the question of globalization to cultural economies.Ruccio, David F. is the author of 'Economic Representations: Academic and Everyday', published 2008 under ISBN 9780415774536 and ISBN 0415774535.
