The author was born and raised in Martinsville, Indiana. She was the sixth child of parents who were both blind. Her father, James Russel Muttart, was a piano tuner at Indiana University and a weekend musician. Her mother, Mary Antoinette Beard, was a homemaker and the inspiration for the author’s first novel, Dreaming In Color. While the story is a work of fiction, it is a tribute to the author’s mother and many of its components are based on reality. The author’s unique upbringing and experiences has given her insight into a world that few others have known.
