Dick Vitale has been an integral part of ESPN since the network's early days in 1979. He has served as a head coach on the scholastic, collegiate and professional levels and has been inducted into seven Halls of Fame for his outstanding contributions to the game he loves. In 1998, Vitale received the Basketball Hall of Fame's Curt Gowdy Media Award, the Hall's highest honor for a journalist outside of enshrinement. Among his numerous other prestigious awards are the Black Coaches Association (BCA) honor award for dedication to youth and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Cliff Wells Appreciation Award for outstanding service to college basketball. Vitale and his wife, Lorraine, have two daughters, Terri and Sherri, one granddaughter, Sydney, and two grandsons, Connor and Jake. Dick Weiss is currently in his 11th year as a sportswriter for the New York Daily News and previously worked for 19 years at the Philadelphia Daily News. He is a past president of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the incoming president of the College Football Writers of America. Weiss has received the Basketball Hall of Fame's Curt Gowdy Media Award, the Nit Media Award and the Big East Media Award. He has previously coauthored books with Rick Pitino, John Calipari, and four with Dick Vitale.
