SUMMARY

Richard Silberg was born in New York City in 1942. He received his BA from Harvard in 1963 and his MA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University in 1973. He is Associate Editor of Poetry Flash and Co-Director of the Poetry Flash at Cody's Books in Berkeley. He also teaches "Writing and Appreciating Contemporary Poetry" and poetry workshops at UC Berkeley Extension. His first book was a volume of speculative social philosophy, The Devolution of the People, published by Harcourt, Brace and World in 1967. His newest book, Reading the Sphere: Essays on Contemporary Poetry (Berkeley Hills Books) is a collection of essays that were originally published in Poetry Flash. His poetry collections include Doubleness, Heyday Books, 2000, Totem Pole, 3300 Review Press, 1996, Translucent Gears, North Atlantic Books, 1982, and The Fields, Pennywhistle, 1990. His poetry has appeared or will soon appear in The American Poetry Review, Denver Quarterly, Volt, and other journals. His current non-fiction manuscripts making the rounds at publishers are two book-length critical essays: Symbol's Body and The Central Voice: Polarizing Nineties Writing Between Derrida and Spoken Word.Silberg, Richard is the author of 'Deconstruction of the Blues ', published 2006 under ISBN 9781597090513 and ISBN 1597090514.
