Born in Nebraska, Charles Herbert Sandy received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1912 from McPherson College in Kansas. Following post-graduate work at the University of Nebraska, he returned to Kansas, where he held various educational posts, including Superintendent of Schools in Herington, Kansas. Later he assumed duties as Secretary, first of the American Insurance Company, and later of the Home Mutual Life. Mr. Sandy's work as a right-of-way contractor in thirty-three states for the past three decades has allowed him to travel extensively throughout the United States.
