The two volumes constitute the authorized biography of one of the twentieth century's leading preachers, whose influence must be considered in any assessment of the history of the evangelical movement in the British Isles & worldwide. Any analysis of the twentieth century's renewed interest in the doctrine & practice of the Reformed evangelicalism of the sixteenth-to-eighteenth centuries must also reckon with the life & work of Martyn Lloyd-Jones. The first volume traces Lloyd-Jones' career from his rural Welsh roots to a promising medical career (he was Chief Clinical Assistant to the King's Physician, Lord Horder, at age 23) & on to a pastorate in an impoverished Welsh mining town, culminating in a move to London to be assistant to Dr G. Campbell Morgan at Westminster Chapel. The second volume commenceswith the difficult war & post-war years which prepared Lloyd-Jones for his subsequent great influence in London in the fifties & sixties. These pages also trace the enlargement of his ministry into wider circles: the universities, Europe, North America, South Africa & ultimately, through his books, the whole world. The two-volume set has already become a primary text on evangelicalism in the twentieth century.[Murray, Iain H. is the author of 'David Martyn Lloyd-Jones the First Forty Years 1899-1939' with ISBN 9780851513539 and ISBN 0851513530.
