The Asian Indian community is one of the fastest growing immigrant groups in New Jersey. Concentrations of Asian Indian children now approach 30% of the school population in some schools. Little research has explored the experiences of Asian Indian children of the 'model minority' label that tens to clump all Asian-Americans. Identity studies have prioritized adolescence, neglecting the salience of identity study among younger children. The cultural identity constructs that inform multicultural discourse need elaboration and clarification.
