My nonfiction cancer survival story starts with tales of my traumatic childhood. I was the only survivor of my immediate family yet went on to obtain a Master's degree in English and teach college. I married Edd (a fellow professor and musician), had children, and got a science fiction novel published. Then, when our youngest child was just a baby, we found out I had a rare form of breast cancer. My doctor called me one in a million (I felt special). After surgery, a CT-scan, and a bone marrow biopsy, I entered The Chemo Room. I was usually the youngest person there, observing a strange medical world as chemicals seeped into my veins via I.V.s. Crossing the Chemo Room is my collection of true stories about the people and inspiration I discovered on the journey through cancer and into recovery. Friends and family of cancer patients say it helps them see into the life of a cancer patient and understand what a cancer patient feels. A helpful Resources section is included in the book, with reviewed web sites, 800 numbers, booklets, books, a short list of what I learned while going through cancer, and a letter from my husband Edd who gives his point of view as a cancer survivor's spouse. Now, seven years later, I am healthy. I live in the California mountains with my family and constantly share my story with other cancer patients and their friends and families. For teens and adults. 60,000 words. 195 pages.Lonna Lisa Williams is the author of 'Crossing the Chemo Room', published 2002 under ISBN 9781588980854 and ISBN 1588980855.
