Wendy Smedley began scrapbooking six years ago as a way to document her family's life. Because she found her initial forays into the scrapbooking store confusing and overwhelming, she took numerous classes. Wendy quickly got a job as a cashier at a local scrapbooking store to increase her product knowledge-and fund her new passion. It wasn't long before she was teaching classes at numerous stores throughout her state. Being curious and an avid reader, Wendy quickly accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the industry. Her ability to teach beginning scrapbookers and give them the essential skills to get started was one of her fortes, and led to the publication of the first edition of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Scrapbooking. This led to more scrapbooking teaching, online author chats, and listed resources for scrapbooking. Wendy took time off to have her fifth son, Caden, in August 2000. Soon after his birth she began working as the Public Relations director for My Mind's Eye. She enjoyed working closely with the owners, who remain her close friends, and learned much about the manufacturing end of the business. Wendy started her own product line (partnering with her sister, Laurie Dyer, kids craft expert) for scrapbooking kids. She has enjoyed the product development aspect of the company, although her true love is scrapbook education, which led to her current position as Assistant Editor of Simple Scrapbooks magazine. She works closely with her long-time industry favorite, Stacy Julian, in editorial development, column management, and scrapbook layouts. Although her main hobby is scrapbooking she also enjoys reading, gardening, going to movies, enjoying the outdoors with her family, photography, decorating, and chatting with friends. Wendy resides in Bountiful, Utah, with her husband, Kent, and her five sons: Taylor, Justin, Jacob, Nathan, and Caden.Smedley, Wendy is the author of 'Complete Idiot's Guide to Scrapbooking', published 0016 under ISBN 9780028643724 and ISBN 0028643720.
