Pamela Dennison started out her dog-training life using punishment-based methods. For four years she continued to pop and jerk her dogs on prong collars and was actually pretty darn successful in competitive obedience. However, problems began occurring and her dogs started to refuse to perform. Harsher punishment was advised, tried, and then rejected. Pam went on a learning quest and found positive methods. Originally, Pam crossed over to positive training to solve her competition obedience problems. She found, much to her surprise, that virtually any behavioral problem could be easily fixed-even supposedly insurmountable ones. Pam overcame the popular belief that aggressive dogs can never be turned around-especially through positive methods. She had the great fortune (some days she thinks misfortune) to rescue a Border Collie, Shadow, who was aggressive toward humans. In a mere 18 months, Pam trained Shadow, through purely positive methods, to be calm and confident around people, earn his Canine Good Citizen title, and compete in other dog sports. Pam is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors. Her articles have been published in the Blairstown Press and The Clicker Journal. Pam started her own business, Positive Motivation Dog Training, in 1996. Since then she has helped over 1,000 dogs and handlers build their relationships and solve behavioral issues.Dennison, Pamela is the author of 'Complete Idiot's Guide to Positive Dog Training' with ISBN 9780028644639 and ISBN 0028644638.
