William C. Davis graduated as a Master of Arts in History from Sonoma State College, Rohnet Park, California, in 1969. Since then he has written more than thirty books on the American Civil War and Southern history including Breckinridge: Statesman, Soldier, Symbol and Battle of Bull Run, both of which have achieved Pulitzer Prize nominations. Most recent publications include "A Government of Our Own": The Making of the Confederacy, and A Way Through the Wilderness: The Natchez Trace and the Civilization of the Old Southern Frontier. For many years editor then publisher of the magazine Civil War Times Illustrated, Davis has been a consultant to many television and film productions.
