Chris Carmichael is an endurance coach and advisor to Olympic athletes and teams around the world. He is Lance Armstrong's personal coach. In 1999, Carmichael was named the U.S. Olympic Committee's Coach of the Year. That same year, while guiding Lance Armstrong to his first Tour de France victory, he founded Carmichael Training Systems (CTS) to bring quality coaching to elite athletes and other active people. Carmichael lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, Paige, and their children, Anna and Connor. Jim Rutberg graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University with a BS in health and exercise science. A former elite-level cyclist coached by Chris Carmichael, Rutberg has worked with Carmichael and CTS since 1999. In 2003, Rutberg coauthored The Ultimate Ride with Chris Carmichael. Rutberg lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, Leslie. Kathy Zawadzki is a certified sports nutritionist and a licensed cycling coach working at CTS. Kathy's interest in sports nutrition started while in graduate school, where she did one of the first studies looking at the effect of carbohydrate and protein supplementation on athlete recovery. She has spent the last fifteen years working as a coach and nutritionist to help athletes maximize their training. As the mother of a two-year-old, Kathy also enjoys training and competing as a masters' athlete.
