By providing access to some 3,000 reviews of 339 American plays, musicals, and revues, it will not only help reference librarians locate critical comments on plays and playwrights, but will also be a useful tool in studying the phenomenon of the transatlantic travel of American plays. For each work Stanley provides the name of the West End theater in which it played, opening and closing dates, number of performances, and citations to reviews from leading London newspapers and magazines. The volume is arranged alphabetically by author, with a chronological listing of the plays and a title index.
