Awaiting Permission to Land

An earlier version of Elisavietta Ritchie's Awaiting Permission to Land won the 2001 Anamnesis Award. Her poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and translations have appeared in Poetry, Poetry Anthology 1912-2002, American Scholar, The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, Washington Post, National Geographic, and many other publications. Award-winning books include The Spirit of the Walrus, In Haste I Write You This Note: Stories & Half-Stories, Flying Time: Stories & Half-Stories (four PEN Syndicated Fiction winners), Tightening the Circle Over Eel Country, and Raking the Snow. She edited The Dolphin's Arc: Endangered Creatures of the Sea. Her work has been translated into a dozen languages and has been widely anthologized and published throughout North America and overseas. Home base is Washington, DC and by the Patuxent River in Maryland, but she has lived in Australia, Canada, France, Lebanon and Cyprus.
