This autobiography, today out of print, stands out for its sincerity and its charm. Dar'o, father of modernism, is almost colloquial, sarcastic, frank as he illuminates the boundaries between his political ties to frail republics (among them, Nicaragua) and his literary vehemence; he does not hesitate to tell us hilarious anecdotes about both artists and politicians: "The friendly delegates presented a motion to the Congress asking that I be sent to Europe to be educated at the nation's expense. The decree, with some amendments, was sent for approval of the President. In those days, a party was given at the Presidential Palace, to which I was invited, as a curiosity, to bring cheer with my verse to the ears of those attending. The day came, and to military music, I was asked to read. I took from my pocket a long series of 10-line-stanzas, all red with antireligious radiaclism, explosive, possibly atheist, and all Hell broke loose. Upon concluding, amid scant applause from my friends,Dario, Ruben is the author of 'Autobiografia De Ruben Dario ', published 2003 under ISBN 9788460778585 and ISBN 8460778584.
