Dancer Martha Graham and her collaborator Louis Horst developed a theory of modern dance based on the sonata form and the inevitable change that comes from confrontation. Denise Roig, who studied dance at Juilliard in New York when she was a young woman, takes their ABA sonata movement and uses it to underpin this collection of short stories.
