Pablo Corral Vega is the author of three photographic books: Bare Earth; Silent Landscapes: The Andes of Ecuador; and Ecuador: From Magic to Horror. As director of the Discovering Ecuador project, he invited 38 photographers from 11 countries to spend one week photographing his homeland, resulting in a book published in 1994. He photographs for National Geographic and other magazines and lives in Quito, Ecuador Mario Vargas Llosa was born in Arequipa, Peru. Among his dozens of acclaimed books are Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, The War of the End of the World, and A Fish in the Water: a memoir.
