A graduate of Tulane University, Robert E. Merrill entered Vanderbilt Medical School in 1946, and studied under a variety of luminaries, including Amos Christie. Merrill served professorships in the pediatric departments of the University of Virginia, University of Arkansas, Vanderbilt University, Texas Tech University, Southern Illinois University, and the University of Pennsylvania. He was repeatedly honored by his students for teaching excellence. From 1977 to 1990, Merrill served as associate editor of the Journal of Pediatrics, where he was known as a passionate advocate of accurate spelling and syntax, as well as for bringing humor and relevancy to the Journal’s work. In 1979, he began serving on the editorial board for the science humor magazine, The Journal of Irreproducible Results. Unfortunately, after turning the manuscript of Amos Christie, MD, into the publisher and approving the cover art for the book, Merrill became ill and died at his home in Texas a few months prior to publication. Friend and colleague Dr. Robert Collins supervised final production of this memoir, keeping true to the intent and tone of Merrill’s work.Merrill, Robert E. is the author of 'Amos Christie, MD The Legacy of a Lineman' with ISBN 9781577363712 and ISBN 157736371X.
