Elizabeth Coblentz is an Old Order Amish grandmother with eight children and thirty-three grandchildren. She was born and raised in Indiana and still lives in the clapboard farmhouse she moved into as a young bride with her beloved husband, Ben. In accordance with Amish doctrine, Elizabeth lives without plumbing or electricity and travels by horse and buggy. In addition to her weekly newspaper column, she has been writing for the local Amish newspaper, The Budget, for more than forty years. Born and raised in southwestern Ohio, Kevin Williams was first introduced to the Amish while writing a high school research paper (about efforts to build a chemical plant on prime Amish farmland) that eventually became his first published article.
