Historical account of when almost a hundred United States citizens were sent to Van Dieman's Land by the British Government in 1839-40. The men were members of the Patriot Army that had conducted border raids into the colony of Upper Canada in order to 'liberate' the Canadians from British oppression. The British Government sought to make an example of the men by illegally exiling them to Van Deiman's land, where they suffered harsh treatment before they were eventually pardoned.
