A Study Guide to Sherlock Holmes, Vol. 1

The study guides are an outgrowth of an undergraduate course that Professor William S. Dorn has taught at the University of Denver for more than 25 years. For each Sherlock Holmes story there is (1) an exercise in finding the date of the adventure, (2) a list of Victorian words and phrases that appear in the story, (3) some perplexing questions raised by the story, and (4) three quizzes of differing degrees of difficulty. Volume 1 covers the stories found in the four novels as well as the 23 short stories in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. A bibliography and an extensive index are included. There are three new illustrations by Philip Cornell, a distinguished Australian illustrator.
