As we approach the Single European Market of 1992, the concept of a united Europe, and its implications for the internal organization of each European nation-state, is again under discussion. In recognition of the importance of the debate, this double issue of Contemporary European Affairs is devoted to an analysis of the prospects for, and the possible consequences of, the Single European Market.
